Vancouver Whitecaps and Canada U-17 midfielder Simon Colyn will depart next week to train with Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, multiple sources tell MLSsoccer.com.
One source adds both clubs are hoping to reach an agreement over a loan with option to buy if the training stint goes well.
Colyn, 17, signed a Homegrown contract with the Whitecaps in 2018 and made his MLS debut on Decision Day presented by AT&T last season, the second youngest player in Vancouver’s MLS history at the time. He has been capped at Canadian youth levels, including four starts at the U-17 Concacaf Championship.
The midfielder featured for the Whitecaps FC Residency U-17 and U-19 sides in the 2018-19 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season. Colyn was the 15th youngest player in league history to earn an MLS contract at the time of his signing.
PSV currently sit third in the Eredivisie after 13 games and are coached by former Dutch international Mark van Bommel. The Dutch giants have Americans Richie Ledezma and Chris Gloster in their reserve team, Jong PSV, which play in the second tier of Dutch soccer.
The Whitecaps academy have sold two Homegrown Players in recent seasons with Alphonso Davies heading to Bayern Munich and Chituru Odunze signing with Leicester City.
