His team is coming off a record-breaking regular season, but Bob Bradley’s LAFC open camp for the 2020 MLS season with a few holes to fill.
One of the biggest questions that may be answered when camp opens Monday is the status of Tyler Miller. He’s been the club’s regular starter in goal for the last two seasons, but he’s unsigned and it’s unclear if he’ll be in camp.
"I guess you'll find out Monday," Miller told the LA Times.
Steven Beitashour, who also was a regular starter for two years, is out of contract and is an unsigned free agent and Walker Zimmerman, Eddie Segura, Eduard Atuesta and Diego Rossi all are on international duty and won’t be in camp on Day One.
While it’s clear who won’t be in camp, there is additional intrigue into who will, with Bradley hinting at some trialists.
“There’s a lot to put together,” Bradley told the LA Times. “We will use January to get ready to start Champions League, but we’ll also be working on finalizing a roster, which will include bringing in different players to look at.”
LAFC face a stiff test right out of the gate, with a Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 tie against Liga MX’s Club Leon. And because of that, and falling short of lifting MLS Cup last year, LAFC general manager John Thorrington knows there won’t be any Supporters’ Shield hangover.
“The last feeling this group had was walking off the field against Seattle,” Thorrington said. “That will serve as great motivation. So I certainly have no concern about complacency.”
