TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
Austin FC have signed versatile midfielder Hector Jimenez, the club announced Monday. Jimenez was a free agent.
Jimenez, 32, was most recently with Columbus Crew SC, where he'd been since 2014. He made 133 appearances with the club and won MLS Cup this year.
He originally joined MLS with the LA Galaxy in 2011 as the No. 34 overall pick in 2011 MLS SuperDraft. Jimenez was part of two MLS Cup-winning Galaxy sides.
“Hector is an experienced, versatile MLS player who will bring a wealth of success and flexibility to the squad,” Austin head coach Josh Wolff said in a club statement. “Along with his quality on the field, we know he will be an influential person in the locker room as well as the training field.”
Jimenez is Austin's 13th player as they continue to build their inaugural MLS roster.
“I’m beyond thankful for this next chapter in my career and honored to be a part of Austin FC’s inaugural season,” Jimenez said. “I look forward to getting to know the city of Austin and the fans, but most of all I can’t wait to get to work with my teammates and coaches.”
