TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
Austin FC and No. 11 SuperDraft selection Freddy Kleemann have agreed to a contract, the club announced Tuesday.
Kleemann, 22, is a center back from the University of Washington. He made 19 appearances in 2019 and anchored a defensive unit that finished with 12 shutouts that season.
“We would like to welcome Freddy to Austin FC,” sporting director Claudio Reyna said in a club statement. “We look forward to his continued growth as he prepares to start his first season as a professional player.”
Kleemann was the club's second first-round pick, following No. 1 overall selection Daniel Pereira.
“I am beyond excited to become part of the Austin FC family. I am so thankful that Austin FC has given me the opportunity to play professionally, and I couldn’t be happier to do it in the amazing city of Austin,” Kleemann said. “It’s a dream come true to make it to this level, and I couldn’t be more excited for the future. I look forward to getting to know the fans, my teammates, and members of the Austin FC organization. I’m proud to be Verde.”
