TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

With Paul Aguilar out of contract with Club America and reportedly not willing to renew with the Liga MX powerhouse, a host of clubs have expressed interest in the former Mexican international defender.

According to ESPN reporter Cesar Caballero that includes 2021 MLS expansion side Austin FC as well as another unnamed MLS team.

The 34-year-old right back wore the captain’s armband for Las Águilas, but lost his starting spot to 22-year-old Jorge Sanchez during the Apertura season. Aguilar only played eight minutes for Club America in their two-legged Liguilla quarterfinal defeat to rivals Chivas Guadalajara.

Aguilar has been a fixture for Club America since his transfer from Pachuca in 2011. He made more than 350 appearances for Club America, winning three league titles, a Liga MX Cup championship and a pair of Concacaf Champions League crowns.

Aguilar also earned 55 caps for the Mexican national team since making his debut in 2009 under Javier Aguirre. His last appearance for El Tri was in 2016 in the Copa America Centenario.

Aguilar’s contract expires on Dec. 31 and he’s listed on Club America’s preliminary roster for their Champions League quarterfinal clash against Atlanta United on Dec. 16. But reportedly he’s not likely to travel with the club to Orlando.
