From the start of his professional career as a D.C. United Homegrown signing to living a childhood dream of playing in Europe, Andy Najar is excited about embarking on the latest chapter of his career with LAFC.
“The dream came true, I went there, I played for seven years and now I’m back to MLS,” Najar said. “I’m really excited.”
“I’m very happy to be here and I hope I can give my best to this great club,” he added.
Najar, who trained with LAFC in preseason as he attempted to regain fitness from a serious knee injury, said he feels comfortable with the reigning Supporters’ Shield holders.
“I saw the players they have, they great players and also the best player in the league,” the Honduran international said, referring to reigning Landon Donovan MVP award winner Carlos Vela. “I think I can fit on the team. I hope I can give my best to them and try to help the team to be the champions.”
The 27-year-old right back said the league is significantly different than it was when he left D.C. United to join RSC Anderlecht in Jan. 2013.
“Now they have more great players and I think the competition is getting better every year,” the former MLS Rookie of the Year said. “It’s growing and I hope it continues like that and in the future we can be one of the top leagues in the world."
Najar, who has made 36 appearances for Los Catrachos, is also exited about the large Honduran community in Los Angeles.
“That’s good for us, as players, to have fans from our country,” Najar said. “They can come and support us. As a player, you feel more confidence and that’s extra motivation for the players. That’s the way you can give your best to the team every single day.”
