AMSTERDAM – Despite their Capital One Cup shellacking from guests Manchester City on Tuesday night, Sunderland boss says he was quite encouraged by the debut of loan man DeAndre Yedlin.
The Tottenham right-sider will spend this season at the Stadium of Light, and he wasted little time in notching his first assist on his first start for the Black Cats. His 81st minute run and cross allowed Ola Toivonen to pull back a late consolation goal.
"Yedlin did really well for his first game," Advocaat told reporters after the 4-1 defeat. "He needs to get to know the players better, but I was pleased with the space he found himself in and his work rate. I'm not sure how he'll figure on Saturday as [regular right back] Billy Jones has been one of our best players.
Sunderland, currently bottom of the Premier League table through six rounds, will visit Old Trafford to face second-place Manchester United on Saturday.
