Vancouver Whitecaps product Alphonso Davies has been named the 2017 Canadian U-17 men's Player of the Year after an outstanding campaign that included an influential CONCACAF Gold Cup appearance this summer.
Davies was the tournament's joint top scorer with three goals while helping the Canada national team reach the quarterfinals and winning the competition's Best Young Player award in the process
With Vancouver, he scored three goals and had two assists in 33 matches across all competitions, including a goal in the quarterfinals of 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League. He also became the youngest goalscorer in the history of the Canadian Championship with a goal against Montréal in May.
“The CONCACAF Gold Cup gave him the stage to showcase the range of his talents,” Canada coach Octavio Zambrano said in a statement. “He is a force with which to be reckoned as he is strong, he is fast, and he doesn’t flinch in front of goal. He is a player with all the tools and he has a good head on his shoulders.”
