Alphonso Davies’ 19th birthday will be memorable for a variety of reasons.
The former Vancouver Whitecaps star impressed in his second Bundesliga start for 10-man Bayern Munich Saturday despite a 5-1 thumping by Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Canadian international, who made his third start across all competitions at left back, was a bright spot in attack for Bayern Munich, which saw Jerome Boateng sent off on a straight red card in the 9th minute.
After Eintracht Frankfurt scored twice in an eight-minute span to race in front after 33 minutes, Davies helped set up Robert Lewandowski’s 37th-minute goal, a sensational effort that ended with a 10th consecutive Bundesliga goal.
It was the most lopsided defeat since 2009 for Bayern, which dropped to fourth place in the table following their second league defeat.
Davies, who made a multi-million dollar move to Bayern last year, also started and played the full 90 minutes in a 2-1 win over Union Berlin Oct. 26 and did the same in the German Cup three days later in a second round 2-1 victory over VfL Bochum of 2.Bundesliga in which he suffered an unfortunate own goal.
