FRISCO, Texas — During their first three matches in the Generation adidas Cup Premier Division, D.C. United showcased a strong possession game, but they had not yet seen that positive play translate into results.

In their fourth group stage match, however, United unlocked that game-winning potential fueled by a dynamic performance from academy midfielder, Theodore Ku-DiPietro, who helped them earn their first win by beating South Korean side Ulsan Hyundai 3-0.

The 17-year-old put on a show and doubled D.C.’s lead over Korean side Ulsan Hyundai in the 21st minute with what may be the goal of the tournament so far:

“[Theodore] scored a tremendous goal today but was also a key in bringing others into the game,” DC head coach Ryan Martin said after the match. “When he combines with others like he did today, it really allows his individual quality to shine.”

Ku-DiPietro also provided the assist to Kevin Paredes on the game’s opening goal in the 15th minute.
