A championship clash between the US and Spain awaits Saturday at 7 pm ET (Twitch, ESPN app) for the U.S. Soccer eSeries One title, concluding the four-team international EA Sports FIFA 20 tournament that began June 3.
Men’s, women's and e-national team players from the finalists, as well as Brazil and Mexico, all competed in a round-robin style tournament in recent days. Players from each national team faced their counterparts, and the three scores were aggregated to determine the winner of the match.
The US and Spain ultimately went through on goal differential, setting up a highly-anticipated final. The USMNT memorably stunned Spain during the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup semifinals, and the USWNT beat Spain during the Round of 16 at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.
NYCFC and USMNT goalkeeper Sean Johnson, USWNT midfielder Allie Long and back-to-back eMLS League Series champion Fiddle of FC Cincinnati have represented the US. As for Spain, the UEFA side fielded Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal, women's international forward Sheila Garcia and FIFA pro JRA.
The games will be a rematch, since the US and Spain faced off Friday evening. Long came up clutch, helping book a championship ticket.
Brazil were represented by three-time World Cup veteran Beatriz, Flamengo star Everton Ribeiro and pro gamer Resende. Mexico, one of two Concacaf sides, had Inter Miami star Rodolfo Pizarro, El Tri youth international Yanin Madrid and pro gamer VillaMore3.
The tournament was recorded last week, and viewers on Twitch can donate to charities personally selected by the three US representatives. The games have played in ‘85 Overall' mode, meaning everyone has the same 85 (out of 100) rating, rather than their assigned FIFA 20 rating. Univision play-by-play announcer Ramses Sandoval and former US youth national team midfielder Jordan Angeli have served as hosts for the broadcasts.
