UPDATE: In light of the situation surrounding the spread of the novel coronavirus, registration for the qualifying tournament for the United States eNational Team has been postponed to a future date yet to be determined, US Soccer announced on Monday afternoon.
The United States eNational Team have announced the process to qualify for the USeNT, through a fully-online qualifying tournament to select the representatives for the FIFA eNations Cup 2020 online qualifiers.
The tournament, called USeNT Open 2020, will run March 28-29, with the PS4 and Xbox winners forming the two-player squad which will represent the United States during FIFA eNations Cup 2020 qualifying and other national team events.
Registration links can be found here for: Xbox and PS4.
“This is another step forward for us in our eFootball initiative," U.S. Soccer chief communications officer Neil Buethe said in a statement. "We are excited to create a pathway to the eNational Team that not only recognizes the hard work committed by those at the top of the FIFA Global Series rankings but also affords an opportunity to the broader community of players and fans. Esports is an opportunity to connect with new fans and grow the sport as a whole, and the USeNT serves as an exciting platform to further that cause.”
Day one is an open competition while day two is closed. The four finalists on each console from day one will advance to day two, where they will meet the top 12 Xbox and PS4 ranked players in the FIFA Global Series. The singular winner for each PS4 and Xbox from day two will be the USeNT competitors.
The qualifying dates for the FIFA eNations Cup have not yet been released, but that tournament will be online. The best in the world through qualifying will represent their country in 2v2 matchups at the FIFA eNations Cup, scheduled to be played later this year in Copenhagen, Denmark.
At last year's eNations Cup, the inaugural edition, the USeNT led by Doolsta and GGGodfather suffered heartbreak in the group stage, denied entry to the knockout rounds by a last-minute shot that hit the woodwork. They finished third in Group B behind Spain and Mexico, ahead of New Zealand and China.
The tournament was comprised by each team playing a total of 12 group games — two 1v1s and a 2v2 against each opponent in their group. France beat Argentina in the final.
