It was a battle of Mexico national team stars Saturday on FIFA 20, as Inter Miami midfielder Rodolfo Pizarro faced Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez in the club’s first international e-matchup.
They played two different games that were commentated by TUDN and Inter Miami broadcasters Ramses Sandoval and Luis Omar Tapia, and the MLS expansion side came away with the 3-2 aggregate win.
The first leg featured a second-half comeback by Pizarro and Miami to secure a 2-1 victory. Pizarro found an equalizer in the 51st minute, and then Juan Agudelo bagged a late game-winner to negate Jonny’s opener in the 24th minute.
The second leg featured another comeback by Pizarro, as he scored in the 32nd minute with himself to cancel out a Ruben Neves opener. The 1-1 draw was enough to win the series, even as Jimenez poured numbers forward.
Pizarro and Jimenez have shared the pitch numerous times, making 12 appearances together with the Mexico national team, included during El Tri’s 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup triumph. They also faced each other four times during the 2012-'13 and 2013-'14 Liga MX seasons while playing for Pachuca and Club America, respectively.
Pizarro previously participated in and won Inter Miami’s FIFA 20 tournament as part of Twitch’s Stream Aid 2020, a virtual event that raised over $2.7 million for the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund. The midfielder also represented Mexico in the FIFA eNations Stay and Play Cup on April 24, defeating Peru and Vancouver Whitecaps attacker Yordy Reyna, 2-1.
