Gordon “Fiddle” Thornsberry, the eMLS representative of FC Cincinnati, on Sunday won the EA Sports FIFA 20 Summer Cup Series North America, earning the crown of the best FIFA player in North America and a prize of $10,000.
The Summer Cup Series North America was a revised format that EA SPORTS launched, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, to replace the Global Series. The Summer Cup Series took place completely online in which the best eight of each region (4 highest ranked players on Xbox and 4 highest ranked players on PS4 based on the Global Series Rankings) were invited to participate for their respective region’s crown.
Fiddle’s victory caps off an impressive FIFA 20 season. after he won back-to-back trophies with eMLS League Series One in Philadelphia and eMLS League Series Two in Portland. He was defeated in eMLS Cup by eventual winner George Adamou of the New York Red Bulls.
Meanwhile, Atlanta United's Paulo Neto also won the South American of the Summer Cup series back on July 26th. This past spring, he also won the eMLS Tournament Special with first-team player Franco Escobar on May 20.
