Atlanta United's eMLS representative Paulo Neto won the FIFA 20 Summer Cup Series for South America, marking the second international title that an eMLS player has won following NYCFC's Chris Holly (Didychrislito) winning the eChampions League last year.
Neto took home $10,000 of the $30,000 that was split between the top finishers as the first-place winner, after topping Brazilian opponent Gabrielpn 3-1 in the championship matchup.
The competition started with a group stage in a double-elimination format with four players per group. The top two teams from each group advanced to the playoffs, where Neto faced off with his competitors in a double elimination bracket before coming out on time.
The event was one of the big end-of-year tournaments that EA Sports announced would replace the annual eWorld Cup. The competitive FIFA season runs thru July-August.
FC Cincinnati eMLS standout Fiddle will compete in North America tournament this weekend.
