In line with FC Dallas’ tradition of signing Homegrown players, Avila played midfielder in the FC Dallas Youth program from 2010 to 2014. The Midland, Texas native played soccer collegiately at University of Texas of the Permian Basin before tearing the ACL in his right knee, his third ACL injury. Avila won Xbox Manchester City Cup in 2017. He was the winner of the inaugural eMLS All-Star Challenge presented by Wells Fargo in August 2018.
